Spaces of Rational Loops on a Real Projective Space

We show that the loop spaces on real projective spaces are topologically approximated by the spaces of rational maps RP → RP. As a byproduct of our constructions we obtain an interpretation of the Kronecker characteristic (degree) of an ornament via particle spaces.

Embeddings of Real Projective Spaces

The question of finding the smallest Euclidean space in which real projective space P n can be (differentiably) embedded was the subject of intense investigation during the 1960s and 1970s. The purpose of this paper is to survey the status of the question, and add a little bit to our knowledge by proving one new family of embeddings, using old methods of obstruction theory. Our new result is gi...

Spaces of algebraic maps from real projective spaces into complex projective spaces

We study the homotopy types of spaces of algebraic (rational) maps from real projective spaces into complex projective spaces. It was already shown in [1] that the inclusion of the first space into the second one is a homotopy equivalence. In this paper we prove that the homotopy types of the terms of the natural ‘degree’ filtration approximate closer and closer the homotopy type of the space o...

Packings in real projective spaces

This paper applies techniques from algebraic and differential geometry to determine how to best pack points in real projective spaces. We present a computer-assisted proof of the optimality of a particular 6-packing in RP, we introduce a linear-time constant-factor approximation algorithm for packing in the so-called Gerzon range, and we provide local optimality certificates for two infinite fa...

on projective spaces

We prove that a one-dimensional foliation with generic singularities on a projective space, exhibiting a Lie group transverse structure in the complement of some codimension one algebraic subset is logarithmic, i.e., it is the intersection of codimension one foliations given by closed one-forms with simple poles. If there is only one singularity in a suitable affine space, then the foliation is...
